Floating Collections – an Alternative Concept in Library Collection Management

Abstract


The article is about an alternative concept in library collection management – floating collections – very popular in American public libraries nowadays. Selected literature is presented, the history of approach and a case study from Monterey County Free Libraries (MCFL) where the author of this article works. Potential benefits and challenges of floating collections are presented as well.
