Abstract

Nowadays, learning and teaching processes can be affected by numerous distractors. The growing popularity of the Internet and social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat) poses new challenges to modern education. The main goal of the presented research was to analyze and describe the relationship between using the Internet (especially social media) and educational outcomes, considering also some personality aspects (HEXACO Model) as well as students’ self-esteem (Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Theory). According to the results, the average grade has correlated positively with the satisfaction of the educational outcomes and conscientiousness. However, the study has not shown any significant correlation between the average grade and the frequency of Internet use nor self-esteem. The research has shown a negative relationship between self-esteem and the tendency to compare grades with others. The article provides also further research directions related to the discussed issues and limitations of this study.
