NATO's reaction to Russia's aggression in Ukraine: the imitation of containment in the context of „Appeasement policy” or real activity
Abstract
Russian aggression against Ukraine has provoked a wide international resonance. However, quite often the major world powers and organizations react to the event only by expressions of concern. In this context, the special attention should be devoted to position of the North Atlantic Alliance. The organization, which used to have active and versatile dialogue with the Kremlin in the preceded period, at the beginning of March 2014 declared that Russian activity in the territory of Crimea is a violation of international law and agreements. Afterwards, due to activation of Russian troops in Donbas, Alliance completely suspended civil and military interaction with Russia, at the same time deepened and broadened dialogue with Ukraine.
