The Inhabitants of the Borough and Town Centers in the Principality of Galicia–Volhynia: Private and Institutional Problems; the Relations with the Local Authorities

Abstract

The article presents a place of the inhabitants of the borough and town centers within the administration system of the Principality of Galicia-Volhynia and their position within the social structure of this state. The existing written sources do not allow for inferring whether the communities of these centers were administered by separate officials or whether they were subjected to the power of the officials who managed the administration of the entire municipality. However, we can state that the laws and prerogatives of the inhabitants of these settlements were different from the legal status of the remaining categories of the population, who inhabited the administrative and territorial entities.
