Edward Zheligowski – Polish Exile in the Russian Civil Service (Based on the Materials of the Orenburg Region, 1853–1857)

Abstract


The article reconstructs the life of the Polish exile Edward Zheligowski in the Orenburg region in 18531857 on the basis of archival documents. It describes the circle of his patrons, contributing to the mitigation of his punishment. The author shows the mechanism of his appointment to a Russian state position while serving his exile.
