A Review Article of the Book by Joanna Machut-Kowalczyk Entitled Family Councils Under Authority of Justices of Piece in the Zgierz, Łęczyca and Łódź Provinces 1809–1876, Łódź 2014, pp. 324
Abstract
The review regards the monography dedicated to the institution of family councils on the land of central Poland in the XIXth century and includes a comprehensive analysis of the legal basis governing this institution, i.e. the regulations included in the Napoleonic Code and in the Civil Code of the Polish Kingdom. It also reveals the actual view of functioning of family councils in the practice of the peace courts of the provinces: Zgierz, Łęczyca and Łódź. The strong point of the reviewed study is utilizing the archival research, carried on by the author during the query at the National Archive in Łódź. The study constitutes the original solution of the research problem, not being undertaken broader in the current subject literature.
