Towards Green Glottodidactics: From Theory to Practice
Abstract
The article focuses on green glottodidactics – a new approach in foreign language education that integrates linguistic development with the cultivation of ecological awareness, empathy, and responsibility toward the natural world. In the face of the climate crisis, language education should serve as a space for reflection on human-nature relations and for fostering environmental consciousness among learners. The paper consists of two parts: the first outlines the theoretical foundations and aims of green glottodidactics, highlighting its connections with ecolinguistics, ecopedagogy, and education for sustainable development; the second presents an analysis of selected English language textbooks in terms of how they represent ecological issues and their potential to promote empathy and pro-environmental attitudes toward the non-human world.
